Lately, I’ve been planning a party of my own, looking for a unique and fun location for a charity gala. I’ve looked at restaurants, clubs and hotel ballrooms, but by far my favorite spots are the local museums in Dallas and Fort Worth. Museums are GREAT places to host your next event for several reasons. First, they set the tone for your party with pre-existing and fabulous décor! Sure, you may have to add tables and chairs, or some lounge furniture thrown here and there, however...

Party Colors for Spring
Sure, its only the middle of January, but we’ve got spring on the brain! We’re excited about pretty new palates for next season! Instead of the muted fall colors or bright jewel tones we saw this holiday season, Spring is about taking the same colors and softening the palate. This spring, we’re loving a mix of charcoal grey (instead of black or brown), buttercup yellow (instead of gold or orange) and coral (instead of red or cranberry). For a more masculine touch to this palate...

Texas State Fair
The TEXAS State Fair is going on right now and it is an activity in Dallas that you don't want to miss! I went on Monday night and my main goal when I go to the fair is to EAT! The Fair has many great things to offer like the car show, the butter sculpture, the pig races, and the dog show. There is an entire kids area and don't forget the Midway with all the games and rides. But, the best part by far for me is to try the new food items they have that year. This year the two new food items I tried...
Hot, Hot, Hot Holiday Color Trend: JUNGLE RED
Ever see the 1939 MGM movie titled The Women? Those gals were slingin’ wisecracks when Betty White was still a “ROSEy”-faced toddler and Bea Arthur wasn’t quite so golden! This was also the first talking picture that featured a FULL COLOR fashion show. Enough with movies, fashion, and White’s berry-slapped cheeks. We’re talkin’ about COLOR ; and what’s HOT!! But, hold on to your pill box hat I say… Red, Movies, Fashion, White, Rose, Golden, Berry...
Tips for Success
If you are only planning a short conference, make sure to have at least coffee and water available. If your event is longer than two hours, you should have an accessible array of snacks. If planning a menu, don't forget to have vegetarian and low-fat friendly foods available.
It is always best to work out on paper what you can afford for an event budget. After you have come up with your total figure of what you can spend add a contingency of about 10% to the total - this will help relieve any stress from unexpected cost.
Check out your venue's inventory of tables, chairs, linens, and decorations. Using in-house stock is more cost-effective than renting.
The devil is in the details. Do not forget to keep logistics in mind. This includes how people will get to the event, how they will get home, where they will park, etc.
