Today when I opened my email, lurking in my “newsletter” folder was the very exciting announcement “Dallas Center for the Performing Arts…100 Days to Grand Opening!” YAY! The official opening for the Wyly Theater and Winspear Opera House has been slated for Oct 12-18, 2009; a week-long celebration for these great new venues! After the civic dedication, there will be all kinds of outdoor multi-media performances and concerts in the 10-acre Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons public park, culminating in tours of the Theater and Opera House with performance samplings in each. In celebration of the week, the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center will hold special art exhibits, as will The Trammel Crow Collection along with their Tibetan sand painting demonstration (which is VERY interesting, I've seen it).

Driving downtown today, I went past the construction sites and let me tell you, those buildings are going to be spectacular!! They are totally eye-popping works of art and will be such a great addition to the Dallas Arts District. I can’t wait to see the finished new spaces, enjoy the new performances and use them as venues for upcoming events.
